My dear friends,

It was a pleasure and a privilege to have Bishop Thomas in our parish on Wednesday and everything went according to plan. He spent nearly two hours in school blessing the new classrooms, talking to the children in the assembly they had prepared for the occasions and answering their many questions – including “How old are you?” and giving the answer! The bishop then spent time talking with the staff and cutting the school’s 30th anniversary cake. He then spent time in the Presbytery giving me my “Ofsted”, but very nicely and it was good to have the opportunity to talk things through with him. Then he had dinner with Kate and I and relaxed a little before Mass.

It was good to have our bishop preside at Mass and a special joy to celebrate seventeen parishioners receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. We offer them our congratulations and the assurance of our love, prayers and support as they move on into life empowered with the Holy Spirit as witnesses to the truth and beauty of the Catholic way.

Now it is time to think about R.C.I.A. If there is anyone interested in exploring what it means to be a Catholic and possibly becoming a Catholic would you please sign the list on the main table. I will contact those on the list and be beginning the programme next month. This is also open to anyone who would like a “refresher” on the faith.
